Activities Near Angel Fire New Mexico Mountain Home
Nearby, less than 10 miles, Angel Fire Resort offers an 18 hole PGA-rated golf course; and a variety of summer fun activities including tennis, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and fishing. On weekends, the scenic chair lift up the ski mountain, is the perfect way to take in some breathtaking scenery and photographic opportunities. We can secure special rates for a day of golfing, just let us know in advance. Principal winter activities are skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling. Angel Fire is the 4th largest ski area in New Mexico, sporting 68 trails.
A couple miles up the road is the town of Eagle Nest, and the remnants of Elizabethtown, an old gold mining town established in 1870. Eagle Nest Lake offers some of the best trout and salmon fishing around, and is also headquarters for big and small game hunts. You won't want to miss the annual Fourth of July fireworks display over the lake. The Monte Verde Ranch offers the finest unobstructed view of the best fireworks display in the state!
Red River, a picturesque old west mountain town, complete with saloons, is a short 18 mile drive on the scenic 'Enchanted Circle' highway. A lively nightlife can be found in this historic mining era village, along with some great fishing, hiking, off-road and jeep 4-wheeling, skiing, and shopping.
Also on the 'Enchanted Circle', a short 25 mile drive from this New Mexico Mountain property, is the famous artist colony of Taos. Taos offers a plethora of art galleries, shopping, restaurants, the Taos Pueblo; and plenty of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, Rio Grande river rafting, and the Taos Ski Valley, a premier ski resort sporting 108 trails.
You can hike the summit of New Mexico's highest mountain, Wheeler Peak, at 13,161 feet, from both Taos and Red River.
